GM MOTORS IS IN THE RACE: THE CAR MAKER REGISTERS AS A FORMULA 1 POWER UNIT MANUFACTURER

General Motors (GM) has formally entered the Formula 1 arena, registering with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as a power unit manufacturer set to debut in the 2028 season. The announcement comes in tandem with GM's collaboration with Andretti Cadillac for their F1 entry, slated to be powered by a GM-developed unit. Mark Reuss, GM President, expressed enthusiasm, emphasizing the company's commitment to creating a competitive power unit that will position Andretti Cadillac as a prominent works team in the series.

The FIA recently approved Andretti's Expression of Interest, granting the team the green light to participate in the FIA Formula One World Championship. GM has already initiated the development and testing of prototype technology, aiming to leverage the F1 venture to enhance expertise in areas like electrification, hybrid technology, sustainable fuels, high-efficiency internal combustion engines, and advanced control systems.

GM's foray into Formula 1 aligns with a longstanding tradition where racing serves as a testing ground for transferring knowledge and technology between race cars and production vehicles. Notably, Cadillac's V-Series performance portfolio, marking its 20th anniversary, seamlessly integrates insights gleaned from racing into its road cars. Cadillac Racing's recent success in the IMSA and WEC seasons, particularly at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, underscores the brand's racing prowess and serves as a testament to the potential of GM's future Formula 1 power unit.
